Apparently I’m trying to impress my own journal.

Hey there,

I need to confess something.

For all the times I’ve told you that your journal is your space…

That it doesn’t have to be organized.

That your handwriting can be ugly.

That you can ramble, scribble, cross things out and generally make a mess…

Guess who still sits down sometimes and tries to make her journal read like somebody’s going to publish it one day?

🙋🏽‍♀️

And let me tell you, the thought of somebody actually reading the whole thing one day would be mortifying.

So why am I writing like I have an audience?

Perfection can sneak into the strangest places.

Sometimes I catch myself editing my thoughts while I’m writing them.

Making the sentence prettier.

Leaving something out because it sounds too messy.

Trying to make one thought flow nicely into the next.

And meanwhile, the whole purpose was to get the stuff out of my head.

If I’m editing myself in my own journal… where exactly am I supposed to be completely honest?

So yes, I’m still working on this too.

The journal doesn’t need to be beautiful.

It needs to be true.

💬 And if staring at a blank page makes your inner editor clock in for work, you can also take your thoughts somewhere digital.

The KCC app gives you another place to pause, reflect, and get what's in your head out.
